A little craft room tale

A little craft room tale

I made some progress on my craft room last week.  yipee!

I’m happy with how it’s turning out but I wasn’t always sure I would.  I waste a lot of time changing, fixing and redoing things that were fine to begin with.  But sometimes you just have to try something out to see if you’ll like it…or not.

Once upon a time {after 2 years of hard work} I finally had my craft room almost finished!  I was down to the last few projects.  I finally built, painted and installed the cabinet doors and just had to build an island and finish some minor details around the room.

But then one day when I was looking around, I decided that I wasn’t happy with the way things were looking.  I thought my cabinet doors were just too stark!  I decided some glazing was in order!

I brushed and wiped and smooshed and dabbed until I had it all Just Right!

But it didn’t stop there.  I glazed every beadboard surface in the basement…which is a lot of beadboard and a lot of glazing!

Remember this?

Then I built my island.

Then I decided that I hated the glaze!  So one morning I got up and went to work repainting all the cabinets and built ins in the basement.

I didn’t even change out of my pj’s.

Oops!  That’s why work clothes are always a good idea when I “work”.  {Those were some pretty Christmas-y pj’s to be wearing in October anyway.}

Much better!  Back to where I was a month ago.  So glad I could add the extra work for myself.  Not like I don’t have a million other things to do with my time than to waste it redoing and redoing a project that I already finished!!!

And then I made a countertop out of 2 pieces of MDF and some pine edging.  That project was a piece of cake, other than all the dust I created sanding the piece in place.  It was much too heavy once the 2 pieces were glued together to take upstairs.

Then I made some corbels.

I’m happy with how they turned out but my process was less than stellar!  I’ll have to make another one from start to finish to show you A BETTER WAY than how I did it.  {Now that I worked out all the kinks.}   Just add one more project to the list, it’s already so long that I’ll hardly even notice!

I’m so close to the finish I can practically see the paper scraps scattered on the floor from all my furious crafting madness!

I still have a little “something else” planned for the countertop too so add just one more project to that list.  I hope it turns out and doesn’t end up requiring another “repair” re-job!  But I have to try it!  I just do!!!

    Good call on re-painting the cabinets. I love the glazed look, but sometimes it just isn't the right application for a room. I like the way you did the island and different color, the room looks awesome so far.
