About Me

Welcome to Sawdust and Paper Scraps, I’m Sandra.

I have a passion for design and carpentry and have spent the last 10 years buying houses, fixing them up, selling…and starting all over again.

Why do I DIY?    Because it’s more affordable than paying someone else to do it for me!

How did I learn to DIY?  By jumping in with both feet and doing it!  (There is an element of trial and error.)

We move a lot with my husbands job.  We have lived in Idaho, California, Louisiana, Arizona, Texas, Illinois and Tennessee.

Over the years we’ve owned five homes and I’ve gotten more and more brave about the types of projects I’ll take on.  My first house, all I did was paint.  While in my second home I went back to school to study Interior Design.  I wasn’t satisfied simply designing a room on paper.  I wanted to bring my visions to fruition!  I talked my brother (who had worked building custom cabinets) into flying out and giving me a whirlwind carpentry lesson for a couple days.

That’s how it all started and I’ve been learning and growing ever since.

Whenever I get the chance (and can find a place to do it) I also love to craft and sew.   However,  most of my time is spent Remodeling and Building “Stuff”.   My favorite project is probably the Playhouse I built for my daughter in our Illinois house.  That is also where  I started blogging.

Now we live in Tennessee where we bought another house to start all over again on…again!

I hope you’ll join me on my DIY adventures!
